First off, sorry that I missed last weeks update. This strip wasn't suppose to go next, but I felt this short story arc of the Traveler and his father needed to go next before we get back to my buffer of strips. So because of this, I needed to create this strip and I had a hard time formulating how I wanted to present it. So no update last week. In the end it's definitely simpler than I wanted but, I was still able to get the point across that there are many Time Travel violators shackled up. And if you recall, what happens to time traveler violators? Their species get exterminated and as we just learned the violator lives imprisoned in time. So why do the Traveler AND his father get to exist? That's a good question...

Update

I will be switching hosts in the next week or so. By doing so I will be able to go "mainstream" and switch to Comicpress like the majority of the webcomic world. Kind of excited, didn't realize what I was missing. Sundays's: Inside the Conduit

Here is the first of hopefully a bi-weekly discussion that is Conduit Flux. Here I'll show some concepts from time to time as well as discuss past, present and perhaps even future story arcs.

Here's one of my latest sketches of a character to soon make their appearance somewhere down the road in the universe of Conduit Flux.

I've been working on another character too, but that character is TOP SECRET as it pertains to a major (if not THE) plot point with Conduit Flux.

Now back to the guy on the right. The concept and origin of this character and its species have seen a few changes. Some of it has to do with recent story changes that have helped evolve the overall story arc.

THE FUTURE

I've always have known what Conduit Flux was about, but the challenge is making it more richer with it's characters and plot. I often find myself jotting notes down while I am at work or out and about.

A few weeks ago even when I knew how Conduit Flux was going to end, a major "Game Changer" popped into my head. It not only, I feel anyways, created a new dimension to the story but helped the development of not just Masterson, but was able to give even more motive to many of the story points I had developed. It didn't change how Conduit Flux is going to end, that concept can't change.

It was one of those ideas that came out of nowhere and I mean that. As I laid my head down to crash for the night and the moment my mind for once for the day went blank, a image popped into my head for no reason. No thought appeared to invoke it. It was just there. A gift, perhaps?
Regardless, I'll take it.

THE PAST

The difficult part of getting a great idea is to keep continuity. There's ideas that I have that may or may not get into CF, but the ones I do use I always need to make sure I'm not contradicting myself. I myself will go back and read (as I did last night) the whole strip again. There' always a conversation I might have forgotten about, that I may be able to use later. Whether that's as a joke or to utilize an idea I have now, that I might not had at the time. I also remind myself of how inconsistent I was with drawing Masterson back then too. I have my time lines all drawn out as to who is where and when and what they do from there. Paradoxes. Don't get me started on paradoxes. I've decided that with time travel it is impossible to avoid paradoxes. You can for story sake ignore them or make them your friend. Let's say I stand somewhere in the middle.

THE PRESENT

I can't tell you how excited the present of CF is for me. CF is still in it's infant stage and I can't imagine what CF will look like 40 strips from now as I compare Strip 1 to Strip 40. When dealing with a story that includes time travel, I'm always finding myself concentrating on the stories in the past and the stories in the future... I know presently we are in the future as the story goes, but I mean the futures...er future. That's what I mean. At time I got to stop myself from getting CF too convoluted and try to to stay in the present. It's not easy, but I manage.

Good To Be Back

Well, it is certainly exciting to be back drawing Conduit Flux. Even during the hiatus I never stopped thinking about the strip as this was one of my primary reasons for the hiatus. A reworking of the storyline was in need and I wanted to make sure that when I was ready to return I had no reason to stop the strip again so it can run straight through to it's conclusion.

Yes, Conduit Flux has a conclusion and it's outline is written, almost in stone. With what I have already written as Act II,(We are now just about out of Act I) I believe CF will run for at least another year before we get to Act III.

Knowing exacly where I want to go with the strip definitely helps with getting from point A to B to C now, and I have no doubt it will be fun getting to each. I hope you are as excited as I am that CF is back and I appreciate your readership!

Masterson Does the Math

Two more strips of our current location and we then get back to Flick. This whole visit has lasted about 5 strips longer than I anticipated. I don't know about you, but I'm starting to miss Flick.

Guest Stripping X-Mas over at Brock Heasley's Superfogeys is now running. You can catch my Guest strip here as Brock was kind enough to post it back on Monday. I will also be adding to this guest strip as soon as I can get to drawing it. The idea for the strip grew into something larger, but only submitted a single strip version for simplication, but as Brock usually does he's alway interested in other people perspective on his SF world and is more than interested in finding out what I origininally had planned. So look for that the next couple of weeks!

Who is "He"? That's what I want to know. I really dreaded getting back to "Neither here or there". In hindsight I really dislike the unimaginative setting I created here. Perhaps I'll go back and change it eventually.

Mister Tamin

When I was creating Conduit Flux the character Mr. Tamin came from just a simple doodle for a "Men in Black" kind of character. Now if you refer to Episode 4, where Mr. Tamin makes his first appearance as the head of M12. Now if you're a long time reader, you may notice I took some liberties and went back and changed Mr. Tamin's physical appearance and instead of being the head of "The Agency", he is now head of M12, which we all know now is Majestic 12. Had to do as the story changed and developed. I also needed to make Mr. Tamin look a bit older in Ep 4, tp reflect Masterson's observation in Ep 35.

Now Mr. Tamin was always suppose to have a larger role, but that role changed recently of which I can not speak of. :) As his aging and ability to be at this crash landing of The Traveler is more than just coincidental.

Episode 35 is for the absence of this past Thursday. I do expect to have another up by Thursday. This current story line should be getting tied up real soon so we can get back to Flick and also find out what Lord Phirantus is up to, too.

As alien conspiracies go, Majestic 12 is right up there. In fiction, M12 has been used a lot and I'm hoping my take is a fresh idea as we will definitely find out more and MEET some of the M12 in later installments.

The Traveler was nice enough to share his technology with us and all he asked was one simple thing and we humans couldn't even keep our promise. I tell ya. We will find out what that promise was soon enough as well.

Any guess as to what the promise might of been. I'd be interested in hearing from you...

You Do Not Belong!

Tell Lucas Masterson of Earth something he did not already know. But, I have a feeling there is more to that statement then the obvious. Man, I wish I knew. But, in the words of Willy Wonka, "The suspense is terrible, I hope it will last".

And for this mysterious being, here is where I came up with its design. I've mentioned it before, I like to draw (no pun intended) from Art Deco for Conduit Flux. This characters design is no different.

As mentioned before, either here or elsewhere, the need for Masterson to have a wound to use the lobotomy joke created an entire new subplot for Conduit Flux which led to this situation happening. I had sketched out a character a few weeks back and had a good idea how I was going to use that character. I just didn't realize how soon. The next few strips should paint a much larger picture of what's to come in Conduit Flux and Mastersons future.

We'll be venturing out of the ship soon to to start a little story arc for the month of September.

Not much, but needed to move the story along. Once again, I am sorry for the delay. This would have been up last night, but I left all of my art supplies at work. I got some strips finished today, so I got my buffer back and will be back to schedule next week.

Also, if you are having any issues viewing any of the strips, please let me know what number Episode and what Browser you are using. I've been aware of it for some time but, can't figure out why. I use Firefox and I do not have any issues, but I have found issues with IE 8. Thank you.

And I have opened up the comment section to Everyone, you no longer need to be a member of Blogger to leave a comment, Feel free to drop me a line. I know you guys are out there. The episode is now up! So Flick it is. With the Retrieval Drone arriving on the scene, things appear to only be getting worse for Masterson. Is this guy ever going to catch a break?

Lord Phirantus and his lacky Lempix

I've been waiting a long time to introduce Lord Phirantus. Now, Lempix was actually design to be used as an entirely different character, but thought it would be fun to use him as the Lord's lackey and comedic relief. I think it helps that he doesn't look all too evil. He's become a favorite of mine real quick as I continue to write the story out.

Phirantus's design came from art deco. I originally wanted Conduit Flux to have a Art Deco theme. One of the first website designs I had, spoke to this as it had a very strong Art Deco design. If Phirantus was a Transformer, he would be an Art Deco Fan. As soon as I saw this picture, I knew I had my main villain. next week you'll catch a better glimpse of Lord P.

And as mentioned last week the individual in the pod goes by the name of, "The Traveller". You can say, he has picked up a lot of Galactic Frequent Travel Miles. But, more to come of him in the coming weeks.

Episode 18

Artistically, not one of my crowning achievements. Probably because I had to borrow from Episode 9, to mirror the appearance of the pod that shares a striking resemblance of the pod from Episode 9. So I don't feel like this strip is too imaginative, but what can you do, right?

Next week we find out the name of this particular individual inside the pod. Although there are a lot of similarities between episode 9 and 18, can anyone see some differences? There's the obvious, and then there is a not so obvious. There's a BIG reason for it, but we won't find out for quite awhile! Sorry. :)

Talk about a bad past few couple of weeks. Lost in Space And you find out that not just your family is dead, you're the last human alive.

This strip had a few different looks. The panel with the incinerated skeleton was not planned. Originally it was just the shadow behind the smoke but I felt the strip was too boring. So I included the incineration of his friend, as all died on Earth from the Heat Ray.

Speaking of the Heat Ray, where did it come from? Who is behind sending the Heat Ray to Earth?

He may be a great conversationalist, but reliable, Doctor Medkit is NOT. There's a lesson here kids. Never put your trust in a pile of inanimate object dressed up to look like a person. Yeah, your welcome.

I drew Masterson in this suit way before starting the trip and knew I wanted to fit this into the story. Mission accomplished.

Frozen Dinner in SPAAAAACE!

I got a chuckle out of this one as I wrote it. It's amazing how your priorities can get a bit muddied when lost in space. Filling your belly, alien contact, filling your belly, alien contact...it's all good. It's a win-win.

As a side note, I saw Transformers 2 this evening. I found myself a bit bored at times. It wasn't a bad movie, but I would have liked to have felt a little bit more fulfilled in the end. Oh well, Micheal Bay isn't a story teller, he blows things up better then anyone else and films it better then anyone else.That's what I got from this movie. Nothing more. Nothing less. Hopefully in T3 we'll get a little Dinobot action.

Episode 9 - The Ice Alien Cometh!

Who's this one eyed frozen alien? And, who's the beacon for? So many questions! OK, really just two, but I'm glad I'll be moving THE STORY along within the next few strips.

I hope I was able to give the impression that this ship/vessel/pod appears out of nowhere.

Worked on the overall story arc of Conduit Flux the past few days. It's coming together quiet nicely, which opened up some other story lines I had not thought of.

ORIGIN

I have been drawing this alien/creature for about a year or two. It's nice to finally have a place for him in a story. He was originally going to be a imaginary friend for a grown up, which was another comic strip idea I had before settling on Conduit Flux.
